Susan Mokelke, J.D., describes the work of the Foundation for Shamanic Studies, which Michael Harner founded with his wife, Sandra Harner. As its President, Susan works to bring the core shamanic practices Michael developed from his extensive travels and research to people interested in finding their connection to spiritual dimensions. The resulting access to one’s compassionate helping spirits provides wisdom and guidance for those who seek to be of service to the world.

The Way of the Psychonaut explores the life and work of Stanislav Grof, Czech-born psychiatrist and psychedelic psychotherapy pioneer. Stan’s quest for knowledge and insights into the healing power of non-ordinary states of consciousness, influenced the discipline of psychology and profoundly changed many individual lives.

In essence, the clients become practitioners of divinatory shamanism for themselves, with the help and guidance in ordinary reality of the shamanic counselor. One of the features of HSC (previously known as HMSC) is that the real shamanic counselors are in nonordinary reality. These are wise teachers that the clients encounter in their shamanic journeys and who provide answers to the clients’ questions. The ordinary reality HSC counselors, in contrast, provide instruction, orientation, and methodological advice based upon core shamanism and shamanic journeying.

“The HSC work is among the most powerful I have encountered, not only for myself at the training, but in use with clients afterwards. With regard to the training itself, I really loved it. April is a very focused teacher and that discipline translated into a very practical, useful training. I came away, not only with insights and new practices for myself, but a method I can use to help clients develop their own disciplined work and connection to helping spirits.”

— Susan Rossi

All five days of this course are devoted to experiential practice in question framing, journeying, and shamanic interpretation in an intimate setting. The work is intense and exciting. As one participant observed, “The deepest journey I ever had occurred in this course.”

Certificates of Completion for FSS Graduates

The Foundation for Shamanic Studies is pleased to offer Certificates of Completion to graduates of most of the FSS advanced residential training programs in Core Shamanism.

certificate_gold_webThe Certificate of Completion is meant to publicly acknowledge the considerable time and effort invested by students in the completion of the Foundation’s training programs in advanced shamanism and shamanic healing.

Important Note: The Certificate of Completion is not intended to convey that a person is a shaman, a shamanic practitioner, or a shamanic healer. The Foundation cannot certify that a person is a shaman — it is successful results in shamanic healing that make a person recognized by his/her clients as a shaman or shamanic healer, and even that status can change at any time according to a practitioner’s relationship with the helping spirits.
